Our Story
In these pages you can follow the history of the club. It contains text, photos and in some cases video. These pages not only describe projects and activities of the club, but also insights into the club itself. The information is presented in chronological order. This is based on the Lions year (ie July to June). An index is provided on this page to enable you to select the gallery you require by activity should you so desire. The photos are displayed as a thumbnail to permit faster
loading of the page. Should you so desire, you may click on
the thumbnail and the full size image will be displayed in
a separate window. In those cases where there are many
photos relating to a particular project or activity a
special photo gallery has been created where you may select
the images you wish to view. The existance of these
galleries is indicated by the icon
These photographs have been supplied by our members over the years. Unfortunately a fire in our then storage area destroyed many of our records, however with the cooperation of some former members we are starting to recover this information. Many early photos have been scanned from slides etc and are of poor quality, as time permits these will be enhanced as far as possible. In some instance the only record of an activity or event is
a newspaper clipping. It is interesting to note that if the
attitude of some parts of the media towards Lions was the
same then as it is now, then we would have no record at all.

( All videos have been standardized for use with Adobe Flashplayer. An approximate playing time is provided for each clip. The videos of our earliest projects were originally filmed by a former member Dr Ralph Peters using an 8mm camera with no sound. These were subsequently transferred to VHS tape and from there to DVD. There has therefore been a considerable loss of quality, but as these are our only records of these projects, they are important to us. In some cases to obtain photos of these projects we have had to extract frames the videos. |
